Preamble
BOOM. Just like that, Halloween is done, and November has arrived. Since classes end this semester on Monday, December 5, that means that you have (as of today) (are you ready) LESS THAN 5 WEEKS OF CLASS LEFT. Let that sink in for a moment. If you’re in the same boat as the the HSA exec, you’ve definitely got papers and projects looming large on the horizon. In the next few weeks, channel your inner 300 Spartan soldiers and face the onslaught of the Persian army (aka. paper) head on – before you know it, you’ll be home for the holidays! In the meantime, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered if you want to relax a bit, take a break, and dabble in some fun history activities. Keep on reading to see what’s in store the next few weeks.

Hacksaw Ridge: Free tickets for tomorrow!

CALL FOR EDITORS: Historical Discourses
The Editors-in-Chief of the History Student Association’s yearly undergraduate journal Historical Discourses are looking for passionate, creative, and dedicated students to join our editorial board. If this sounds like you, please ~submit an application~ to apply as an editor; a position through which you will assist in creating the final product that is Historical Discourses!
For those interested, please email mcgill.hsa.submissions@gmail.com, with (1) your CV, (2) a cover letter that expresses your interest in history (approx. 250 words) and (3) a writing sample (preferably a history paper of sorts).
The application is due Wednesday November 9th at 11:59 am and we can’t wait to hear from you!

We were very pleased by the turnout, and hope that you guys enjoyed the lectures as much as we did. One Last Word: Unpacking the US Presidential Campaign
On November 3rd at 6:00 pm in Arts 160, the Undergraduate and Graduate History Students Associations would like to invite you to a night of discussion about the upcoming American Presidential Election (have we heard enough about this yet? Who knows!). It’s an event where YOU get to lead, channel your inner Ken Bone, and ask the tough questions.
We have invited Professor Shanon Fitzpatrick, Professor Leonard Moore, Professor Elizabeth Elbourne, and Professor Lorenz Lüthi to offer their historical expertise on the election and unpack the realities it embodies for American history and for the world. Come with questions and come ready to look at these events through all of our favourite lens: that of the historian!

HSA Presents: Gerts Trivia Night
On Friday, November 11 at 5:00 pm, come on down to Gerts to test your history knowledge! Bring a team or come on your own – it should be a heck of a good time for all you history geeks out there. Looking to exact some revenge on a psychotically pedantic professors? There will be a team of professors participating, so make sure to bring your A game and show them what you ACTUALLY know!

The Mcgill History Students Association would like to endorse a YES vote on the upcoming referendum on the existence of QPIRG on campus, happening between November 3 and November 8. QPIRG is a critical student service that contributes invaluable programming to both the university and wider city communities. German Studies Journal Vielfalt: call-out for submissions
Vielfalt, the interdisciplinary undergraduate journal from the department of German Studies, is looking for submissions for its seventh volume. We’re looking for academic papers, translations, and experimental or creative work on German language, literature, history, culture, and thought, in addition to visual artwork and photos. Previously unpublished work in German, English, or French is accepted, and all graded work must have received at least an A-. The deadline for submissions is December 20th, 2016, but if you are awaiting a grade for a paper, email us. Vielfalt, la revue interdisciplinaire des étudiants du premier cycle du département d’études allemandes, est à la recherche de soumissions pour son septième numéro. En plus de travaux scolaires (dissertation, travail de recherche, etc.), nous recherchons de l’art visuel, des photos, des traductions, ainsi que du travail expérimental ou créatif en lien avec la langue, la littérature, la culture et la pensée allemandes. Les soumissions doivent ne jamais avoir été publiées et peuvent être rédigées en anglais, français ou allemand; les travaux de cours doivent avoir reçu une note minimale de A-.
