HSA Listserve Preamble: Check your facts!
Howdy, fellow historians! We have no doubt some of you folks tuned into the thrilling drama of the first presidential debate last night (and of course, like good history students, checked the truth behind some of the things said by the candidates!). Remember – every moment we live is a moment that is going to be a part of history, even if it sometimes seems like we are living in a dystopian alternative universe.

This week in History
On September 27th 1791, the island of Crete in the Mediterranean Sea fell to the Ottoman Turks after a 21 year siege (that’s a long time!).
On September 29th 1962, the popular Argentinian comic strip Mafalda (known as the Argentinian “Peanuts”) began publication, in the weekly Primera Plana.
Meet and Greet
The previously planned meet and greet for Tuesday September 27th, has been moved to Wednesday, October 12th. Come by the office (Leacock 629) for welcome back (from Thanksgiving) tea and snacks with your executive!
Call for Editors in Chiefs
URGENT! We are still encouraging anybody interested and dedicated to apply to edit our undergrad journal:
Historical Discourses, The McGill Undergraduate Journal of History is looking for 2 gems determined to edit the best undergraduate journal of all time (maybe)! As editors-in-chief, you will lead the editorial board for the selection and editing of papers, organize fundraising events and work closely with the executive of the History Student’s Association to publish the 2017 edition of the journal. Anyone who is interested in history is encouraged to apply. Visit our website to have more information and consult previous editions.

Halloween Lectures
Heads up! Keep your calendar free on October 26th and our ~spooky~ Halloween lecture series! Wine and cheese will be served during an awesome discussion about creepy, paranormal, occult and ghostly stories from history!
Welcome Back Event Survey
We hope you enjoyed the welcome back event hosted in collaboration with the PSSA, DESA, IDSSA and ESA. The PSSA has created a survey in order to hear what people thought about the event! We would love for those who attended to fill it out in order to give us some feedback for future events, so we can make sure that future events fit what you expect from the HSA!

Patrician Families and the Making of Quebec: The Tashereaus and McCord
The McGill Canadian Studies will be presenting the book Patrician Families and the Making of Quebec: The Tashereaus and McCord by author Brian Young, Professor at McGill University.
A discussion period will be held after the presentation and snacks will be served. If you wish to attend, reservations are required due to the limited number of places. If you are interested, please RSVP to stephan.gervais@mcgill.ca !
