On Friday September 27th at 4:00 PM, Professor Daniel Marston of the Australian National University’s Strategic and Defense Studies Centre will give a lecture on his book, The Indian Army and the End of the Raj. Professor Marston’s book, follows on from his earlier research into the structure and performance of the British Indian Army during the Second World War. It examines the political situation in British India during the tumultuous period between the end of the Second World War in 1945 and the establishment of an independent and partitioned subcontinent in 1947 through the prism of the Indian Army’s involvement. Professor Marston draws upon extensive primary-source research and interviews with veterans to consider the political and social, as well as the military, implications of the Indian Army’s performance and experiences in the last days of the British Raj. The event will take place in Ferrier 230.
