On Friday September 20th at 2 PM, Dr. Roland Cerny-Werner of Paris Lodron University, Salzburg, will discuss research in the archives of former East Germany and the Private Papers of Agostino Casaroli, who was intimately involved with the Vatican’s foreign policy towards the socialist world in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Focussing on the example of East Germany, Cerny-Werner explores how the Vatican and the socialist states had reached a modus vivendi by the mid-1970s.
