In light of the current protest movement, this Wednesday the HSA is hosting an interdisciplinary panel to discuss ways of understanding some of the tensions between First Peoples’ communities and the federal government.
Professor Elizabeth Elbourne (History) will touch on the nature of historical treaties which continue to impact discussions over indigenous rights. Professor George Wenzel (Geography) has spent his life’s work studying the livelihoods of Baffin Island’s native population and will provide an insight into contemporary life in Canada’s Far North. And, from the ISA (Indigenous Students Alliance), Tiffany Harrington will discuss the protest movement itself.
